Can i back off from a car deal and not incur any charges?

I signed the paperwork yesterday for a new car that was supposed to be brought in from out of state, but today morning the dealer got to know that the car already has 500 miles on it. I talked to the dealer and said that i wanted to back off from the whole deal because paying so much money for a used car does not make sense. I dont have the car neither does the dealer. The car is still out of state. Will i incur any charges or should i be worried about some fees that the dealer can threaten me with? Also should i request any paperwork that states that this deal is off or rather not bring up the question about any paperwork and simply ask him to destroy all the application on record? How do i proceed? I finally backed off from the deal just because i was about to spend 30 grand on the car and not be the one to put the initial miles on it. The dealer was offering me $500 off on the car but still. The car has a 36k miles warranty on it but that does not mean i get the car in at 36499 miles and ask him to replace parts because it no longer is covered. The good part of the deal was that the car was not brought in, it was about to be. So the dealer did a good job on informing this at a good time. I appreciate his work on that.

YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THIS DEAL WITH NO REPERCUSSIONS TO YOU. THE DEALER DID NOT REPRESENT THE CAR TO YOU IN IT'S ACTUAL CONDITION. USED AS OPPOSED TO BRAND NEW. IF NOTHING ELSE TAKE IT TO JUDGE JUDY. By: BOOMBOOMBILLY 2006-11-28 08:51:02

Searching for best car deal. What site always keeps very up-to-date on the best car deals?

I'm trying to find a car but I know that the deals/rebates/sales/etc change week to week. What web site is always up to date on the latest good deals? Thanks!

your best option is to get a copy of Autotrader your local paper store. They're cheap and should be up to date. you can try their website www.autotrader.com or www.cars.com as well. By: Ming 2008-09-29 10:55:41

Does a bill of sale finalize a car deal?

My friend bought a car for 3200. It was running perfectly fine and minor dents on it. You can say it was in great condition. It turns out that the car had a salvaged title on it before but now it had a regular title here in Illinois. I know what salvage/rebuilt titles are and nothing is really wrong with the car but my friend might have some insurance problems eventhough the car has a regular title now. Since he signed a bill of sale, is the deal finalized or can he do anything about it if the car is to malfunction?

You have gotten some good answers already, and also some terrible uninformed answers: First, there is NO 3-day grace period for automobile purchases in any state in the U.S. It's a common misunderstanding. Second, lemon laws don't apply to used cars, only new cars. Third, if your car has a normal title in the state where you register it, there should be no problems related to that title. Forth, a bill of sale is a legal document. Even though the car isn't technically yours until you have the title and registration changed, any seller could take you to court for breach of contract, if they want to. Used cars are generally sold "as-is" which means any problems found AFTER the sale are your problems, not the seller's. By: CarMan 2008-01-27 12:46:08

How do i back off from a car deal? What charges can i incur?

The dealer was offering my $500 less the price of the car. But the car itself has 36k miles warranty on it. that means i already lost couple of months driving it. Also just going to the gas station and coming back does not cost you 500 miles. I think 500 miles is a pretty good mileage on the car. Anyways, i backed off from the deal and the sales manager said that all the paperwork is gonna be destroyed and i dont have to worry about it. So i am keeping my fingers crossed and hope that i dont get any charges. Also the car was gonna cost me 30k on the road, i think anyone would be a little setback spending that much money and not be the one to use the mileage on the car.

Are they willing to give you a discount now? Not sure about the charges. Ask your salesperson. By: Joe Somebody 2006-11-28 08:51:37

How many times should you offer/counteroffer on a car deal?

I'm looking to get a used car and I went today and found one I liked but I wasn't interested in buying it today because the price was too high at $9,923 so the manager offered me $8,400. I'm going to counter at $7,500 (as its a little more than the Edmunds estimate value). If he counteroffers do I counteroffer again or do I get in danger of blowing the entire deal?

usually after the 2nd or 3rd the dealership is kinda firm... but usually you can get 2000 to 3000 off if you do not take their first offer... and dont even counter... just say to the dealer.. "hey im gonna see what this dealership down the street can do for me." By: @JamesARcomedy 2009-08-04 18:58:07

How long whould I wait for a Pa welfare car deal to go through?

Never done a car deal like this before. I signed the papers for the vehicle info and the person submitted it to the caseworker on the 7th. I would like to see them get this vehicle, but, I can't wait forever either. Has anyone done a deal like this or know of someone? I could use the $ for some bills and Xmas if there is any left over.
